I love finding a band that I’ve never heard of and then the totally blow me away.. I was browsing the Amoeba Records website checking out their live streaming of in-store performances thinking that I should pitch them on TriCaster.

The first band that popped up was a French band named “Revolver”.. I started watching the webcast from a technical viewpoint but midway through the first song, I was hooked! WOW! This 3 piece really has bottled magic!

Review: Captain America: The First Avenger – AWESOME family movie!

I’ve been waiting with anticipation for the release of “Captain America: The First Avenger”. As with any modern film, I’m normally disappointed with the unnecessary bad language and adult situations.

I’m pleased to report that director, Joe Johnston was not only true to the American spirit of Captain America but he keep romance and bad language to a minimum. One pleasant surprise is that this film has a very nice anti-bullying theme. The little guy is the hero and the bullies are made to look like the fools they are.

I took a group of kids ranging in age from 9 to 15 to a midnight showing and everyone loved it. I hope parents across the country support this movie and encourage Hollywood to make more movies that portray the values that made America great!

I gave Emergency Radios to many of my family members. Most thought it was a silly gift but that spring there was a blizzard in Northwest Arkansas and my grandmother was snowed in for 4 days without electricity. Who doesn’t need another MP3 player? For less than $50, this is perfect for anyone who wants to listen to music while working out or running. Also good for kids!

5. Battlestar Galactica – Season 1 (DVD)
What a well written series. BSG even appeals to non sci-fi fans! Hot girls, space battles and mystery. Good addition to any DVD collection.

A multitool like the Leatherman Blast is a great gift because it can be thrown into the glove compartment of a vehicle and give the driver quick access to screw drivers, pliers or even a knife. Great gift for guys and gals!

7. Leatherman Kick/Micra Combo
The leatherman Micra didn’t seem very cool until I got one. Great little keychain knife. I have given this out as gifts to friends and everyone has commented as to how useful it is. This combo is an INSANE deal. The Leatherman Micra sells for $19.95 and the Leatherman Kick sells for around $29.95. Getting both for $34 is awesome!

8. Firefly: The Complete Series (Blu-Ray)
I had never seen this series when it was originally on television. I caught the movie Serenity and LOVED IT. It’s basically a western set in space. Lots of humor and action! Great visual effects. Buy this series!

9.Absinthe & Flamethrowers: Projects and Ruminations on the Art of Living Dangerously (Paperback Book)
For the fire nerd in your family, this is a fun book to read. Educational experiments with a little danger involved.

10. Walking Dead Compendium (Paperback Book)
Probably one of the best comic books I’ve ever read. Warning. This is NOT for kids. Lot’s of adult situations, language, etc.

Is Iron Man 2 family appropriate?

Iron Man 2 has been hammered a bit by critics so I wasn’t expecting much when I purchased my ticket. Considering that Tony Stark is a hard drinking womanizer, I don’t believe anyone has delusions of Iron Man 2 being a Disney style family film. After hitting a midnight showing, I’m excited to say that director/actor Jon Favreau was able to deliver an Iron Man story that is packed with a thrill a minute and is appropriate for almost all ages.

Bad language, romance and adult situations were all kept to a surprising minimum. A handful of curse words, a few kisses and it quick shot of Scarlett Johansson changing clothes. In this scene, she was probably wearing more that you may see on a trip to the beach. The film gets it’s PG-13 rating from the insane action and gunplay.

In an age of “SEXING” up everything, it was nice to see the restraint that Mr. Favreau showed with this film.

I hope that Iron Man 2 is an INSANE commercial success and gives Hollywood more incentive to create action packed family appropriate films. Grab the kids and head to the theater for the best action movie of the summer!

Help me destroy my XBox 360!

We’ll I’m at my wits end. After 3 XBox 360 failures, I think I’m done.. Everyone that owns an XBox is familiar with the Red Ring of death design flaw of the XBox 360.. Microsoft wants to charge me to fix it and I’m really tired of giving them more money..

That is where YOU come in. I’m looking for a creative way to destroy this horrible beast.. I thought about blasting it with a 12 gauge shotgun but that’s been done.. In fact, a YouTube search for XBox Shotgun returns over 8000 items.

I thought.. How about burning it with Thermite! Already done too..

I’m open to some creative and entertaining ways to destroy this XBox 360.
- Drop from a Helicopter
- Burn with an industrial laser
- Run over with a truck
- Blow up with gasoline

I would appreciate you help in giving this expensive door stop a fitting end!

The best Christmas gift under $50.00

Over the years, I’ve purchased many, many Christmas gifts for my family. Usually the gift is appreciated, put away and forgotten. Last Christmas, I decided to give everyone in my family something useful, emergency radios. I must admit that there were confused looks on the faces of my family members when they opened these radios.

Shortly after Christmas last year, a snow storm blew into northwest Arkansas, downing powerlines and phonelines and cutting off electricity for over a week. Turns out that the little emergency radio was my grandmothers only link to the outside world! She built a fire in the fireplace to keep warm and used the radio with it’s hand cranked battery charger to listen to the weather broadcasts and radio stations that were still online. She used this communication to decide whether or not to stay in place or leave the house to seek help. Due to the broadcasts, she knew the power companies were hard at work getting the power back on and that it was only a matter of time before they got to her street.

My grandmother admitted to me that she thought the gift was a little silly when she opened it but when the power when down, it became the most important gift I had ever given her.
