Earlier this year during the DEMO conference I noticed a few high school kids running around with cameras.. After the second day they tracked me down and interviewed me about being an entrepreneur and TriCaster! Gotta love kids who have the guts to get press credentials for the Demo Conf!

SXSW4JAPAN Live Webcast & Album to Support Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Effort

In response to the devastation of the 9.0 earthquake on March 11th, which has left countless dead and homeless across Japan and the Pacific region, SXSW, NewTek, Livestream and HANSON are working together to rally support from the music industry for disaster relief.

The flagship event, a 12-hour live telecast to galvanize support for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund held during the SXSW Music festival in Austin, Texas, was pulled together in less than 48 hours. Recruiting 40 artists performing more than 60 songs, and viewed by people in 149 countries, the livestream was such a resounding success that the telecast is set to be re-streamed in partnership with AOL and Myspace on Tuesday April 5th at noon CT.

In the short period of the initial campaign, which was started at the SXSW Interactive Event with the original launch of SXSW4Japan.org, online donations have topped $100,000, plus a much larger amount that was directed straight to the American Red Cross via their national text donation number.

Many more artists are contributing to the re-broadcast and resulting benefit album, which is available for purchase digitally on Amazon.com today, Tuesday April 5th. These rare and intimate performances include John “JoJo” Hermann of Widespread Panic, North Missisppi Allstars, The Boxer Rebellion, The Hours, Michael Stipe, HANSON, Ben Folds, An Horse, Natasha Bedingfield, Ozomatli, Alpha Rev, Anna Nalick, Charlie Mars, Cary Brothers, Michelle Branch, Bowling For Soup, Rooney, Amanda Palmer, Andrew WK, Taylor Locke And The Roughs, Jimmy Gnecco, Imani Coppola, Tracy Bonham and more.

On the webcast I performed the song, “Unwind Our Hearts” written by New Orleans singer/songwriter, Paul Sanchez.

SXSW Artists Come Together in Austin to Support Victims of Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami

Taylor Hanson interviews Michael Stipe for the SXSW4Japan 12 hour Telethon

A Livestream telethon spearheaded by HANSON and in partnership with SXSW has been organized by world class musicians gathered in Austin for the event.

The hosted telethon was drawn together in a short 24 hour period through tremendous efforts from all involved, with the aim of offering assistance and support to victims of the magnitude 8.9 earthquake on March 11th, 2011. The earthquake and resulting tsunami has left countless dead and homeless across Japan and the Pacific region.

With the greatest minds in music, film and interactive media gathered in Austin for the week, HANSON and SXSW have partnered to capture the rare opportunity for the world of music to impact the world of those in need. Artists from across the globe are gathering in a downtown studio location to make inspiring music and encourage viewers to donate funds to the American Red Cross.

Friends and acquaintances from across the music industry will gather from 12 pm Saturday to 12 am Sunday to donate their time – and music – to support the cause. Those who can’t be in Austin can still join the event live by tuning into a Livestream online telethon featuring back-to-back performances and chats by notable and new artists, driving the audience to donate to the American Red Cross.

Scheduled performances and appearances include Michael Stipe of REM, John “JoJo” Hermann of Widespread Panic, the North Mississippi Allstars, The Boxer Rebellion, HANSON, Johnny Polygon, Andy Grammer, Stephen Kellogg, Anna Nalick, Jackson Harris, Charlie Mars, Bowling For Soup, Stephen Kellogg, An Horse, AWOLNATION, The Parlotones, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Rayland Baxter and many more.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to the American Red Cross. Featured songs from the event will be sold as a part of a benefit project.

Texas takes aim at getting rid of naked scanners

I’m filing this one under the “Don’t Mess with Texas” category!

Kudos to Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) for filing HB 1938, with the goal of making it a civil penalty for anyone working in a locally owned airport to install or operate whole-body imaging equipment — “including a device that uses backscatter x-rays or millimeter waves, that creates a visual image of a person’s unclothed body and is intended to detect concealed objects,”

Texas joins 2 additional states (New Hampshire & New Jersey) in opposing the use of “naked scanners” on the residents of their state

Death by a Thousand Cuts: TSA pats down topless young boy.

Al Qaeda has vowed to kill America with “Death by a Thousand Cuts”. Not a big attack but slowly chipping away at our freedoms and CHANGING America through small attacks. Guess what?! It’s working! When buying an airline ticket means forfeiting your rights, the terrorists have one. This video is a bit disturbing. It shows a topless boy being patted down by the TSA.

We teach our children to never allow anyone to touch them in inappropriate ways or in private areas and the TSA comes along and starts patting down children in the areas that they have been taught to protect! In this video the TSA rep said they agents should try to turn the pat down into a game with the kids.. Let me get this straight.. Create a game where it’s ok to let an adult stranger touch you in your privates? These people should be arrested for sexual assault! No means NO, expect for when you say it to the TSA.

The invasive search techniques that the TSA has recently implement are FORTUNATELY causing a backlash against the bloated Federal department.

ATLANTA (AP) — In a climate of Internet campaigns to shun airport pat-downs and veteran pilots suing over their treatment by government screeners, some airports are considering another way to show dissatisfaction: Ditching TSA agents altogether.
Federal law allows airports to opt for screeners from the private sector instead. The push is being led by a powerful Florida congressman who’s a longtime critic of the Transportation Security Administration and counts among his campaign contributors some of the companies who might take the TSA’s place.

Natalie & Sage sing the National Anthem

Two of my daughters love singing the national anthem! Our oldest daughter started off singing the Star Spangled Banner a few years ago and our 5 year old wanted to get in on the fun. Tonight, Sage and Natalie sang the national anthem at the Upwards Basketball awards ceremony. Enjoy.
