St. Charles Satellite Center Blog Post: NewTek 2011 All-American Video Crew

Albert Dupont of the St. Charles Satellie Center just posted a great wrap-up of his All-American Student, Callan John’s week at the US Army All-American Bowl.

The NewTek All-American Video Crew arrived in San Antonio on January 4, 2011 for five days of training, video production and fun. The crew consists of five High School Seniors who were chosen to be a part of the first ever NewTek All-American Video Crew and the Army All-American Bowl activities. They are Callan Johns of the Satellite Center/Hahnville in Louisiana, A.J. Strauss from Sutter, California, Clint Saylor from Vancouver, Washington, Jordan Tribble from Carbondale, Colorado and Tyler Smith from Dallastown, Pennsylvania.

The five days were packed with activities for the NewTek All-American Video Crew and have been a whirlwind. They spent their first full day at the NewTek Corporate Offices in San Antonio. It is a very unique working environment that reflects the personalities of the NewTek employees. It was an eye-opening experience for the AAVC winners and their sponsors. The first day included training on the Tricaster TCXD850 and 3Play system by Don Ballance.

All American Games and NewTek Recruit the Best Video Production Students in the U.S.

Select high school seniors will be awarded a position on the All-American Video Crew for annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl

SAN ANTONIO – November 04, 2010 – All American Games, producer of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and NewTek, a worldwide leader in video and 3D animation products, announce the first national competition seeking the best high school video production students in the country to form the “All-American Video Crew” at the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

High school seniors from across the country are invited to submit video entries that showcase their work in video production. A panel of expert judges will select four (4) students to participate in U.S. Army All-American Bowl event productions. These students will receive a five-day, all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, comprehensive training on NewTek TriCaster™ portable live production system and 3PLAY™ slow motion and instant replay system, hands-on participation in the live, national webcasts of U.S. All-American Bowl events, interaction with All-American Bowl players and band members, and much more.

Students must have had a specified active role in creating their submission video. Video entries should not exceed three minutes and must be uploaded to YouTube. A full set of rules can be found at www.newtek.com/usarmybowl. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, November 19, 2010.

As a father of 4, I have a pet peeve.. So many parents are shielding their kids from failure. They are giving their kids a false sense of success and therefore setting them up with unrealistic expectations about how “great” they are. Niel Swidley of the Boston Globe wrote a very good article today called “What happened to losing”.

Interview: Sports a Driving Force at Streaming Media East

Streaming Media East kicked off Tuesday at the New York Hilton, with sports once again a buzz topic in the aisles. Those aisles seemed significantly more crowded than they were a year ago, as more customers are returning to the show floor looking to educate themselves, determine their strategy, and purchase streaming solutions that can bring sports content to a wider audience.

“Streaming is coming of age,” says Philip Nelson, SVP of strategic development for NewTek. “Everybody wants it, and everybody knows they need to find their strategy, so the traffic on the show floor has been good. We’re seeing a lot of new faces because everyone needs to have a streaming strategy. People are here trying to learn.”
While attendees are soaking up knowledge on the floor, exhibitors are stirring the pot, meeting new faces, catching up with current clients, and engaging more deeply with the streaming-media community in ways that are far more meaningful than a year ago.
