I recently posted about NewTek taking the entire staff to see the new Indiana Jones movie.. ON THE CLOCK.. Yes.. It’s a cool place to work..
Now, NewTek is doing something even cooler for our clients and cool friends…

My friend, Andrew who is obsessed with Pirates and Ghengis Kahn, sent me a link to this AWESOME Japanese website call JapaneseBugFights.com… It’s basically REAL bugs fighting to the death..
Streaming Video of the most fierce fights in the bug kingdom presented as if it were a live sporting event on television.. It’s funny to see the flash of cameras during the webcast.. Some guy was actually taking “action photos” as the scorpion trys to outwit and sting the eye of the Tarantula.

The picture says it all…
It’s a painful day in Amercian with gas prices are pushing $100 for a single tank of gas.. Americans need to start preparing for a change in behavior because I don’t see prices coming back down anytime soon. Thanks to Sam’s Club for the 5 cent discount!

Today was amazing. TriCaster was chosen as the presentation tool of choice to switch a day long conference for the Department of Homeland Security! The highlight of the day was getting to switch the keynote by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff.
The setup was pretty cool! We had two TriCaster STUDIOS feeding two Sony 4k projectors and everything was running through Command and Control interfaces from RGB to bring a TON of data together on two large screens..

Holy Crap.. This was the funniest bit of the show..
Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr and Ben Stiller…
The bit centers around Ben Stiller trying to convince black and Downey to help make a shameless virial video to promote their upcoming film, “Tropic Thunder”. Seeing Jack Black get hit in the nuts with a hammer by robert Downey Jr is priceless comedy.

Just arrived in my DC hotel and I’m checking out the MTV Movie Awards..
Coldplay has really hit a goldmine with their recent PR.. Starting with the AWESOME iTunes commercial during the NBA playoffs and following that with a live performance on the MTV Movie awards…
It was funny.. In case someone didn’t immediatley make the connection, they had the drummer banging on the same style drum with a giant mallet.. ala iTunes spot..
Pretty good performance, great song!

At A-Kon tonight, the headlining band was Versailles.
I had never heard of them but they SERIOUSLY rocked! Word of warning, these “girls” have adams apples!

Whew… Day one of A-Kon is almost over.. We had two seminars today and attendance was great in both! I was very suprised, considering that this was a week day.. The hotel is PACKED and they are expecting around 10,000 attendees!
Lots of great things to see today..
Here we see Graham and his new friends!
It’s amazing to see the work that some people put into these costumes. We all know what a huge fan William Vaughan is of Plush.. This one is for you Willie V!
I never thought there would be so many Utilikilts here!

As I blogged about last week, NewTek rented out an entire theater for the opening of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and we shut down the office to take EVERY NewTekker to the show..
I was excited to see the Laura Lorek of the San Antonio Express-News mention our outing in her blog!
