American Airlines to charge for ALL checked baggage!

If American can’t afford to do business under their current pricing, they need to raise ticket prices.. Charging for the 1st checked back is INSANITY.. It’s like a car dealership charging extra for wheels on a car.

I’m currently a Platinum flyer on American but with this idiotic move, I’m planning on switching my flights to Delta, Continental or Southwest.. Between the three, I can easily make to the places I usually travel to. Plus Delta and Continental seem to have a more modern fleet and better customer service.

Update:
I sent a complaint to the American Airlines customer service department and recelived the following reply:

Dear Mr. Nelson,

We’re so glad you contacted us. It’s always our pleasure to assist our valued AAdvantage. elite members.

I am sorry to disappoint you, but the baggage charge information was released this morning, and is available on AA.com, however, as with the
$25 second bag charge, the new charge does not apply to AAdvantage elite members.

A partial list of exceptions is below:

AAdvantage Executive Platinum., AAdvantage Platinum. or AAdvantage Gold.
members oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members

Customers flying on the same reservation as an AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold member or oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby member regardless of frequent flier status or fare type (not applicable to group bookings)
