SAN ANTONIO – May 18, 2010 – NewTek, manufacturer of industry-leading video and 3D animation products, congratulates Diggnation and Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show for winning 2010 Streamy Awards for “Best Hosted Web Series” and “Best Live Production in a Web Series,” respectively. Both shows, which are produced and live streamed with NewTek TriCaster portable live production system, were recognized at the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, on April 11.
“From the very beginning, the technology provided by NewTek TriCaster made it possible for us to do the type of broadcast level production that we had envisioned, which necessitated live, on-the-fly, cutting between multiple cameras,” said Kevin Pollak. “I am eternally grateful to NewTek, which has continued to be extremely supportive of myself, my crew, and countless other creators of original content for the Web.”
“One of the secrets of Diggnation, is the tremendous live shows we do that really bring our audience together,” said Jim Louderback, chief executive officer, Revision3. “And since we started producing the live shows with TriCaster, the quality of those events has increased dramatically.”
The Streamy Awards, selected by the International Academy of Web Television, are awarded annually to honor excellence in original Web television programming. This event, and its live online broadcast, brings together top talent, decision-makers and influential figures who are shaping the online entertainment industry.
“NewTek TriCaster is really helping to blur the line between TV and the Web. Its multi-camera capabilities helped us to be one of the more professional looking Web series out there, which helped us win the Streamy for best live production,” said Michael Rotman, director, Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show. “TriCaster makes it possible to do a television-quality production on a Web series budget.”
“Both Diggnation and Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show exhibit the level of quality and style online programs can achieve,” said Philip Nelson, senior vice president, strategic development, NewTek. “As a leading technology catalyst in the live online video revolution, NewTek will continue to play a major role in the production and delivery of this type of dynamic Web programming.”
With TriCaster, anyone can simultaneously produce, live stream, broadcast project and record HD and SD network-style productions. A single operator or small team can switch between multiple cameras, virtual inputs and live virtual sets, while inserting clips, titles and motion graphics with multi-channel effects. TriCaster is used by broadcasters, sports organizations, schools, houses of worship, government agencies and others to provide a new level of extended programming and content to their audiences.
NewTek also congratulates TriCaster users, Fantasy Football Live! and TWiT.tv, which were also nominated for Streamy awards in the “Best Live Production in a Web Series” category. Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show received additional nominations in the “Best Hosted Web Series” and “Best Web Series Host” categories.
Streaming Media East kicked off Tuesday at the New York Hilton, with sports once again a buzz topic in the aisles. Those aisles seemed significantly more crowded than they were a year ago, as more customers are returning to the show floor looking to educate themselves, determine their strategy, and purchase streaming solutions that can bring sports content to a wider audience.
“Streaming is coming of age,” says Philip Nelson, SVP of strategic development for NewTek. “Everybody wants it, and everybody knows they need to find their strategy, so the traffic on the show floor has been good. We’re seeing a lot of new faces because everyone needs to have a streaming strategy. People are here trying to learn.” While attendees are soaking up knowledge on the floor, exhibitors are stirring the pot, meeting new faces, catching up with current clients, and engaging more deeply with the streaming-media community in ways that are far more meaningful than a year ago.
Iron Man 2 has been hammered a bit by critics so I wasn’t expecting much when I purchased my ticket. Considering that Tony Stark is a hard drinking womanizer, I don’t believe anyone has delusions of Iron Man 2 being a Disney style family film. After hitting a midnight showing, I’m excited to say that director/actor Jon Favreau was able to deliver an Iron Man story that is packed with a thrill a minute and is appropriate for almost all ages.
Bad language, romance and adult situations were all kept to a surprising minimum. A handful of curse words, a few kisses and it quick shot of Scarlett Johansson changing clothes. In this scene, she was probably wearing more that you may see on a trip to the beach. The film gets it’s PG-13 rating from the insane action and gunplay.
In an age of “SEXING” up everything, it was nice to see the restraint that Mr. Favreau showed with this film.
I hope that Iron Man 2 is an INSANE commercial success and gives Hollywood more incentive to create action packed family appropriate films. Grab the kids and head to the theater for the best action movie of the summer!
Philip Nelson standing in the spot where the Nissan Pathfinder was parked for the attempted bombing of Times Square. You can still see glass on the ground from when the bomb diffusing robots broke out the windows of the truck. Just on the other side of the phone booth is 1515 Broadway. Home of Viacom, Comedy Central and MTV. There are reports that this location was chosen because of the recent South Park episode.
Layovers in an airport can be boring and irritating. Add flight delays to that and the fun compounds.. During a recent delay at DFW, I sat down at the TGI Friday’s bar to have lunch and catch up on some email.. Imagine my shock when the bartender fills up a glass, places a coster over the open top of the glass then THROWS the full glass of beer to another bartender standing about 20 feet away. It wasn’t just a toss. He sent the glass tumbling end over end until it reached the hands of the receiver. Not missing a beat, the receiving bartender caught the glass, takes off the coaster and serves it to a patron. Everyone sitting at the bar was just as shocked as me. I was able to talk Magic into doing it one more time for my camera.. ENJOY!
Rumor has it for the right tip, the bartender, Magic will attempt the legendary Beer Throw with the behind the back catch. Want to witness beer throwing? Visit TGI Friday’s at the DFW Airport Terminal A Gate 23.. Trust me, It’s worth the ride on skylink! 😉
Make sure you tell him Philip sent you!
