Review: GI Joe – THE must see family action film of 2009

Many people my age went into Star Wars Episode 1 with the high expectations that had been building for two decades and came out stunned by the silliness of the movie and the likes of Jar Jar Binks

Sienna Miller as Baroness

Having been raised a fan of GI Joe, I had those same high expectations going into the GI Joe movie. As we took our seats, I hoped that we wouldn’t leave the theater with that same level of disappointment that many Star Wars fans felt after Phantom Menace.

I’m happy to say that GI Joe was everything I hoped it would be and more! With a rating of PG-13, I was afraid that it got the Transformers treatment and would be chocked full of adult situations, language and other things that I wouldn’t willingly expose my 10 year old son to.

Kudos to director Stephen Sommers for keeping true to the spirit of the comic and cartoons and delivering an action packed thrill ride that is appropriate for a great Father/Son outing to the movies! The adult language and romance are kept to an appropriate minimum and movie really only earns it’s PG-13 rating due to constant action, a little gore and troopers getting blasted and burned.

For long time fans of GI Joe, Sommers threw in many tributes to the series, toys and comics. USS Flag makes an appearance, The phrase “knowing is half the battle” is uttered, “Yo Joe” is shouted and there is some sweet Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow swordplay.

In closing, I would like to urge you to take your family to see GI Joe on opening weekend and support this AWESOME movie! It’s rare that Hollywood delivers a great action film that is family appropriate… That is, If you consider a little gun play family appropriate! ;)

YO! Joe!

Been getting a LOT of questions about what age is GI Joe appropriate for. That is really a hard one to answer because it really depends on your parenting style and your child.

Personally I’m a lot more flexible when it comes to action but excessive language and “adult situations” are things a choose to shield my kids from.

I won’t be taking my 7 year old daughter to see GI Joe but my 10 year old son said it was one of the best movies he has ever seen.

Some things that GI Joe has in it that you may want to be aware of.
    A few bad words
    People falling to their death
    Planes exploding
    Cars blowing up
nanobots being injected into peoples heads
people getting burned, stabbed, shot, etc.

    Lot’s o’ action. :)

    See Ya,

GI Joe the movie is awesome. it focuses mainly on nanotechnology. this movie should have been made a couple of years ago.

I just don´t see movies evolving, For me it´s equivalent the old movies, without the unit study abstraction were much fitter. They had categorize.
